Reflection 1 & 2

I started by identifying the report focus including the target audience. I specified my target
audience as two individuals.
I took this prompt:
Report Focus
This report investigates the technology disparity faced by Pasifika youth in South
Auckland, New Zealand. It explores the potential of Emerging Disruptive Technologies
(EDTs) like IoT, 6G, Edge and Mobile Computing to bridge the digital divide and enhance
their educational and social opportunities.
Target Audience
Born in Apia, Uluomatootua (Ulu) Saulaulu Aiono is a Christian. In 1960 his family moved
to New Zealand. Ulu founded the international high-tech COGITA company during his
Otago University MBA. He is NZ's first Pacific Islander MBA graduate. Over 29 years with
his wife Margaret, the company's ERP (enterprise resource planning) software and
services business grew until its sale to a Silicon Valley software giant in 2012. Ulu chairs
various NGO's including Cause Collective (previously Alliance Health Plus) NZ's only
Pasifika PHO. COGITA is now a holdings & investment company.
Brotha D aka Muliagatele Danny Leaoasavaii is a Hit Maker! With a comprehensive
commercial discography of New Zealand Hip Hop, R&B and Reggae and an
unprecedented impact on youth culture in South Auckland and Aotearoa with his iconic
music record label Dawn Raid. The highly acclaimed movie chronicles the journey of a
young man of Samoa from Otara who creates, establishes and leads a culture of a
generation. Brotha D is presently the Creative Lead for South Auckland Creative and
Tech Hub (SACTH) with The Cause Collective.
Secondary Audiences
South Auckland Community Leaders - includes chiefs (matai), church leaders, and heads
of community organisations. The report equips them to understand the digital divide's
impact and advocate for solutions leveraging EDTs.
South Auckland Educators - teachers and administrators working in schools with
significant Pasifika student populations. This report provides them with strategies for
integrating EDTs into learning environments to improve engagement and educational
outcomes.
Auckland Policymakers - Government officials responsible for digital inclusion initiatives
and educational programs in South Auckland, with a specific focus on Pasifika
communities.
Gemini gave me a summary and some “enhancements to consider”.
I followed this prompt with the Assesment Guide titles & summaries. My prompts and results
can be found here - Google Gemini Advanced Ai >> https://g.co/gemini/share/efe9f4283619
I took the results of my prompts and used them to frame my report by pasting them in to a
webpage build. This process helps me structure the report visually and with consideration for
the content. I also asked Gemini to build tables for me using information I had collated.

I started my research by identifying a focus & a specific target audience.
A Navigation of the Digital Moana:
Empowering South Auckland Pasifika Youth with Emerging Disruptive Technologies (EDTs)
My research had started with an extensive search of the internet that resulted in bookmarks of
over 150 websites and/or articles that I considered reliable or relevant.
I reviewed these websites and documents but struggled to find direct information that would
inform a future strategy, occasionally finding immediate analysis of the present situation.
I discovered one website that helped formulate the direction of my report >> https://
knowledgeauckland.org.nz/publications/prosperity-in-auckland/
Initially I wanted to avoid the poverty cycle and concentrate on the positive aspects of Pasifika
culture that could help the dispruption of EDTs.
The Knowledge Auckland document painted a scene that suggested the divide was growing. I
started to shift my Current State Analysis away from a comparitive approach and looked for
consequences of the divide.
As I researched with this in mind I was able to formulate cohesive content to the structure of the
report.
I wrote over 6000+ words.
However I realised that my target audience was difficult. Ulu was a very accomplished
individual with a deep practical understanding and success with EDTs in various fields.
I edited my 6000+ words by cutting out complete sections to be concise and direct and
consider the audience.
I had decided to write the report in a document rather than the webpage structure I’d initially
adopted. I was able to restructure elements quickly once I’d redefined my audience and
content.
My intention is to propogate the webpage with the updated content as my shareback.
I struggled to find a foothold to start the report. I didn’t start on it practically until late April after
talking through some aspects of the report and structure with one of my target audience.
In conclusion I realised that the issue in my focus was about connectivity. I use the analogy of
public transport in my foreword - a fundementally accepted service.
I also discovered that people who identify as Polynesian in Aotearoa will make up 8% of the
population this year and growing…
